Since 2010 Culture24 has been leading a series of dynamic, collaborative action research projects called Let’s Get Real with a range of cultural sector organisations in the UK to help them define and measure their success online.
The second phase of this action research took place between July 2012 and June 2013. It involved 22 participating cultural organisations and explored what digital engagement could mean for each of them. The final report from this project ‘A journey towards understanding and measuring digital engagement’ tells the story of this journey for the 22 project partners and was published at the ‘Let’s Get Real: An honest look at digital change’ conference in Brighton on 16th September 2013.
This report grapples with the shift in user behaviours and tries to make sense of it on behalf of arts and heritage organisations. The report’s recommendations provide invaluable insights for arts and heritage venues and are a snapshot of the wider struggle the UK cultural sector faces to significantly improve its digital services.
This Professional Forum will open the report’s key findings and recommendations up to a wider international peer group for debate, discussion and evaluation. It will approach the subject with openness, understanding and honesty.
The Forum will be lead by Jane Finnis (Culture24), with the support of Seb Chan (Cooper Hewitt) and Rob Stein (Dallas Museum of Art) along with representatives from the 22 organisations who are attending the conference. Both Seb and Rob acted as external advisor’s on the project and contributing to the final report.
