A collaboration between Imperial War Museums, the National Archives and Zooniverse, to tag and classify the daily diaries of all British Army infantry units on the Western Front, 1914-1918. The full archive comprises 1.5 million pages of daily reports, detailing army activities, casualties and movements. The sheer size of the collection has made it impossible to study in depth. This is the first attempt to examine the Western Front as this level of detail, by crowdsourcing research into the daily lives of soldiers. We hope to build a community of engaged volunteers (citizen historians), working alongside historians from a number of universities, to answer previously unknown questions about the war.
